The Smart Pads II electrodes are a set of self-adhesive defibrillation electrodes presented in a disposable plastic box. These electrodes, designed specifically for the Philips HeartStart FRx AED, can be used in adult and pediatric rescues only when used in conjunction with the pediatric key. Because they can be pre-attached to the AED, valuable time is saved during deployment. The correct electrode placement is indicated on both the electrodes and the electrode box.

FRx electrodes have a shelf life of approximately two years. This expiration date is determined by the conductive gel of the electrodes, which can dry out over time. Using electrodes past their expiration date can have negative consequences for the patient. Defibrillation electrodes are no longer usable once the expiration date has passed. Therefore, always ensure that you connect an electrode cassette that has not yet expired. Always check that the vacuum seal on the electrode cassette is intact.
